A Nook for my Kindle

Pinterest is saving my life. And that includes my bank account.

So, K got me a kindle for Mother's Day this year. Did I ever tell you that? Anyway, he did. I don't have a case for it yet and we are flying all over the country {8 flights in 9 days to be exact} pretty soon. So, I have been doing a little online shopping to find the exact cover that I want need. {as if I will have time to read while trying to entertain an 11 month old during 8 flights. Ok. But whatev.} Well, I found this pretty stinkin' cool one on Etsy that was $25. Not too pricey. But I think I can make it for cheaper. So, I did. Following this tutorial I found on Pinterest. Introducing my new Kindle case:

I mean, really. This cost me $2.50. And I love it. People will think I'm all "old school" reading a real book. Suckaaaas!

Steak & Potatoes Kinda Gal

What a fun week we have had in the Guffey home. You have no idea.

Father's Day was a blast. We grilled out steaks and zucchini and I made garlic whipped potatoes to boot. It was so delicious. K got it right on and I vowed never to pay $30 for a celebration steak at Hal's or Ruths Chris ever again, when I could get the same taste from my own grill- and without the pang of sucking into a pretty outfit that squeezes too tight in all the wrong places and trying to remember how to walk in heels.

Filet for me. Ribeye for the man.

Mmm. Hmm. We got so excited about cooking, and then so comatose from all of the food that we I  forgot to take pictures of K with his daughter. Seriously? It was Father's Day. I'm slow.

Today Cham and I went to Auntie Annie's house for a dip. Her first real dip in a big girl pool...

I have been wanting to buy her a tutu since birth. I saw one this morning at the store and just went for it. I think it was worth it. Don't you? And don't judge my precious princess by her wild-man hair. It just happened when I was lathering up her face with 100 proof sunscreen.

"No pictures, please!"

Oh, you know I love her feet all the time. But pruned? Be still my heart...

Lots more pool days to come!

Angry Birds

What do you guys do when you're angry? Because I just cried the whole way home from Hobby Lobby.

I don't really get angry often. Sure, I get frustrated probably every day. And usually my hurt feelings just turn to apathy in a relationship or situation. But really angry? Rarely.

I just don't understand why a person would feel the need to lay on the horn while I am strapping my infant child into her car seat- just to acquire the parking spot next to mine. I wonder if her hobby is so pressing she couldn't wait one more second to get into that store! Oh, it made me angry. Red in the face, teeth clenching, furrowed brow angry.

I have changed. I think before I would have waited patiently and said something sassy to belittle the woman. Make her feel stupid and small. But today, I slid into the back seat and shut the door to finish securing my precious cargo.

I slowly pulled out and watched her take her time walking in front of me in the middle of the parking lot. Red. In. The. Face. I thought of running her over honking the horn, then prayed because I knew it was the devil telling me to do it. I thought about it again because she was going so slowly. On purpose. When I turned, that's when it happened. I honked the horn. She didn't flinch. Darn it.  Then I started crying. And praying out loud. What is wrong with me? I just blatantly ignored God. What an idiot.

So. I cried the whole way home and prayed that I would not let this moment in my day ruin my afternoon and control my thoughts. And, for the first few verses of Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls" on the radio, it worked. But then I re-played it through my head over and over again, thinking of what I should've done. None as kind as what I actually did.

And I cried. Until I walked in the door.

This turkey sandwich and the little squeals of delight coming from the bunny's monitor are getting me over my stupid moment.

How do ya'll get over your anger?

Pants on the Ground

One million mosquitos are calling our back yard home. All that work on the yard and we can't even enjoy it... yet. My neighbors are hoarders. Officially. I got the scoop from my friendly neighbor. She's been here forever and gave me the low down. Or is it down low? I can't remember. Anyhoos. I told her we were thinking about calling the city on them to have it cleaned up and she said it wouldn't do much good. They would come out and clean it up and in a few weeks it would pile up again. She's called the city on them several times. Wonderful. K usually waters our -new- grass 2ce a day and yesterday he came in with 27 mosquito bites. Just from moving the sprinklers around. Oh. My. Swine Flu. {I realized when I typed that that it wasn't right. Swine flu is birds, right? How do mosquitos kill you, again? West Nile. That's right.}  So. I had to water the grass today.  It was about 100 degrees and I wore jeans and a sweatshirt just so I wouldn't get bitten. Then what happens. I get bitten all over my face. Of course. And then a storm came through and gave us a good rain. So I shouldn't have watered anyway. Boo hiss.

I'll work on getting a great shot of the neighbor's back yard for ya'll. It is intense.

Don't forget this Sunday is Father's Day. It's Kraig's first one and I think he is really going to like his presents. If he doesn't, oh well. I tried. Do you agree that men are the hardest to buy for? There's certain kinds of tools you gotta get, you can't just go pick one up that's heavy and costs a lot.  And certain things they already had that you never knew so you bought them 2, and so darn picky about clothes. Or maybe that's just K. I suppose I could go to the closest thrift store and pick him up a few new flannels and a couple of good vintage records and he would be completely satisfied. But I didn't. So I am rolling the dice that I got this one right.

Can't leave a blog without a picture of the wee one, I know.

Notice anything? Other than she's growing up too fast? Yeah. We are having a no-pants kind of week around here. For babies only.

The Grass is Always Greener...

When we moved into our house, we knew that the back yard was a disaster. What we didn't know was that the job would prove to be bigger than we could handle in a few Saturdays. So, we hired a landscaping company to come in and do it for us. Phew. This week our back yard has turned from embarrassing to beautiful. In 3 days.
Watch this transformation:

BEFORE

Tarp filled with a few Saturdays' worth of work. Not. Worth. It.
The dogs had nowhere to play:(

PROCESS

K marking off where our stone patio and fire pit will go
 Cham supervising
I was scared to go outside while they worked. The Bobcat was just getting started!
 K overseeing the job
Semi-After

Ahhh... breath of fresh air!

Cham Cham giving it a once-over

Today they took the strange waves away and finished the rest of the yard

Tomorrow I go thrifting and K gets pinestraw or mulch or whatever it is you put under trees where grass won't grow. Once we get it all laid out I'll give ya'll the final "After" pictures.

Can I get a "Abra Ca Dabra" ?!
