This isn't a 'so what', but really. What's the deal with aluminum foil? Why doesn't it get hot? It's amazing. And, for that matter, why don't we make everything out of whatever that stuff's made of. Like, for example, the cookie sheet. Geez. Burns me every time, I tell ya.
Yeah, Yeah, it's not Wednesday. I've long given up on posting on the right day...
I said SO WHAT!
So what if I feel bad when people tell me how good I look for just having a baby. I feel like I'm lying because I'm wearing a girdle.
So what if I never, ever know the date. Ever.
So what if I don't have the urge to travel the world. I feel like I am the only person who just doesn't want to.
So what if I just found pink crayon marks all over our fireplace. What. Happened. Here.
So what if I'm a sucker. I bought car wash supplies from a salesman outside of the gas station the other day. He was a great salesman. K laughed said I got suckered. I haven't washed my own car in 10 years.
So what if most days I am still in my pajamas when K gets home from work. I said SO WHAT!
So what if my perfume these days is baby spit up. I'm getting used to it again. K likes it.
So what if I'm obsessed. Obsessed, I tell ya, with Jeopardy. Even Chamblee has jumped on the bandwagon.
So what if my laundry has been in the dryer for 4 days.
So what if my kitchen floors are never. clean. White tile? Forget it.
I couldn't help but notice that we don't exactly fit in the rocker anymore. Her painted toes dangle over one arm rest and her head rests on my unsupported arm well over the edge of the other. Our bellies finally, comfortably, touch and it feels cozy. Unlike the few months where my hard, Jacob-bearing tummy kept us apart, tonight she rests on my still soft tummy. I like it. I can feel every breath she takes in. I whispered to her, "i love you" and with her eyes closed, thumb in mouth, she whispered back, "you too." I almost cried. It gave me an overwhelming feeling. A feeling of "I was once this little girl to my parents. They love me this much." Although, I was never as cute and definitely never as sweet, I was still their little girl, as she is mine. Still am, I suppose. And it happened. I grew up. She will grow up. It almost hurts. No, it does. I used to read "I Love You Forever" and think it was kind of ridiculous how that lady rocked her baby to sleep until he was 50. But now I get it. I'm in. I'll do it for as long as I can.
I came downstairs to find K rocking Jacob. I don't know if I can go through it twice. One of them has to stay little.
Uh, hello. Did you know that Publix will collect your groceries for you and all you have to do is pick them up? *some locations* Why is the one that does this 2 miles from my house? and WHY did I just figure this out? hel.lo. See ya tomorrow.
Y'all. My subconscious is in denial. I saw something last week about a star athlete or musician or something who is only 23. I immediately thought, "Wow! He's my age." Immediately afterward I heard my brain say, "no, he's not, old timer." I'm slow.I will be 27 this weekend. Twenty. Seven.
And. I just searched for a link to give you Publix lovers the down-low on Curbside shopping, and found this. ALWAYS BEHIND ON THE TIMES!!! ergh.
Hello. Here are my peeps:
I love them. Oh my word, so much.
J had his 2 month checkup today and he's 12 pounds. Twelve! He's my little chunky handsome baby baby boy. Oh please, oh please, don't grow up! He got 3 shots and boy he let me hear it all afternoon. The only time he calmed down was when I put him in the bath. "If your kids are grumpy, put 'em in water."
My sister sent Chamblee a baby doll before Jake was born. You know, to get the idea in her head that there was a baby coming soon. She hit it, threw it, and I ended up carrying the thing around to get her used to me holding a baby. It was a no-go.
A few days ago, out of the blue, she started giving grover a pacifier. I thought it was prime time to get her baby baby back out. {For. My. Life. cannot remember the baby's name. Hol?}
What. a hit. This baby, to be named, is hours of entertainment. For her & for me. It is the most hysterical thing I've ever seen. Look:
She gives her a pacifier...
She plays with her on the playmat...
She gets her ready to go in the carseat...
She asked for her to have a diaper.
And she reminds me to change it on the regular...for real...
She burps her.
...and in copy-kitten mode, she says, "i know, i know"
just like her mama does when Jake's having a hard time.
Why does she burp her?
Because she feeds her, duh.
"She's hungry." ...and lifts her shirt.
Maybe I should start wearing a nursing cover around her...
I am pretty sure I have written about this before. How I tricked K into thinking I liked to camp while we were dating. Yeah, I went once or twice with a group of friends in college. Because if I didn't go, who would I hang out with all weekend? All my friends were are into it. So I tagged along. With my makeup bag and favorite pillow and cute blanket. and 6 outfits. I was probably the quiet one {for once} because all I wanted to do was to go home. Anyway, a friend of mine posted this link on Facebook and it spoke to me:
Did I write this song?
If you aren't into watching the video and having a listen, {you should, it's a rad tune} here are the lyrics:
always had a roof above me
always paid the rent
but I've never set foot inside a tent
can't build a fire to save my life
i lied about being the outdoor type
i've never slept out underneath the stars,
the closest that i came to that was one time my car
broke down for an hour in the suburbs at night
i lied about being the outdoor type.
too scared to let you know you knew what you were looking for
i lied until I fit the bill
god bless the great indoors
i lied about being the outdoor type
i've never owned a sleeping bag
never rode a mountain bike
i can't go away with you on a rock climbing weekend
what if somethings on tv and its never shown again
its just as well i'm not invited i'm afraid of heights
i lied about being the outdoor type
Never learned to swim can't grow a beard or even fight
I lied about being the outdoor type
When I let K have a listen, he said, "Well, you never outright lied. You just witheld information."
Last week the three of us went for a long morning stroll through the neighborhood to check out a few Friday yard sales the 'hood was having.
No luck with the yard sales, but triple-wammy-wowza luck with fun times on the stroll back to our little plot. I saw a dandelion, and while I know they are weeds, I think they are beautiful, magical little weeds.
It occurred to me that Chamblee had never seen one. Never blown through one. Never. I almost feel guilty sometimes- being the one to realize these things, and show her for the first time without K to see. Which is why my phone is always on my hip. Must. record. these. moments.
Her reaction didn't disappoint. She is so full of wonder. Squeals and gasps and hands over a dropped jaw. "More? More?" Unfortunately, and fortunately, for us, our neighbors like to keep pretty tidy yards, so these weeds were few and far between. But oh, the delight when she would spot one from afar. In between there were repetitions of, "Where are you 'lions?" While she can say dande- and -lion, she hasn't quite mastered 4 syllable words yet. "Lions, where are you?"
Now in the car we have added to our conversation. She says hello to the trees, the birds and the sky. She waves and says bye-bye to passing cars. And she now wonders, "Where are you lions?"
Chamblee is the best big sister (aside from my own, of course). She is in a phase where she wants to help. And I mean, help with ev.ery.thing. It's very sweet and it's often funny. I love to hear her talking in the next room, "I helping mama". Only to find her unloading the trash can- just so she can put all the trash back in. Or to hear a giant squeal coming from the bouncy seat that Jake is sleeping in- and finding that she has yanked out his pacifier... just so she can give it back to him. "I helping mama." She has the sweetest heart. She understands the concept of sharing already, kind of, and will steal a toy right out of your hand- just so she can give it right back and share it with you. I love that girl. And she loves her brother.
And she likes to help get him dressed, too.
Poor Guy.
Oh Y'all.
Speaking of best big sisters- I'm going to see mine. In just 21 days. TWENTYONEDAYS! She lives in beautiful Santa Barbara with her beautiful family in the lizard capitol of the world, it seems. What a shame. They are the size of cats out there. No, seriously. Anyway, I like to think that my love for her & her family are greater than my fear of lizards, so I am braving the storm. And. I. Can't. Wait. I can't wait to hug her neck and laugh together (in person) and drink red dirt girls or mojitos {both, duh} and squeeze her children so tight she has to tell me to let go and then weep when we leave. Ugh. I'm interested in how the flight will be with 2 babies, but hey. If they cry the whole time it's only 6 hours. on a plane. with nowhere to hide. Right? It'll be fiiiiine. Now down to business. Who wants to watch our dogs?
Oh Y'all.
I have a fear of washing Owlie. She knows him so well and every time I wash him I get so scared he will be like new and she will hate him. Well. I just washed him for like the 3rd time in history and this is what he came out looking like:
Perfect.
For some reason, she only likes to hold on to, suck on, chew, play with and rub under her nose the left arm of Owlie. It's bananas. And it shows. yuck. It's crazy that she knows which arm is which, and you can see her in her sleep reaching for him...grabbing the right arm and tossing him around until she finds the left arm. ba.na.nas. Are your kids crazy monkeys like mine?
Oh Y'all.
Jake started smiling. And laughing. I just died all over again.
"oh no you di'int!"
COG makes this exact. face.
Scary.
And, because I am crazy in the brain, here's a video. Ignore me, please. Just watch the cute baby!
Two people yesterday told me that JCG looked "just like me". Huh? Come again? Say Whaaaaat?! I personally do not see an iota of that. But if by saying he looks like me, what you really mean is, "He doesn't look like K's identical twin like Cham did and still does to this very moment" then yes. I concur. I guess. But hey, like K said, "It's not a competition." Everything is a competition. Duh. Round 2: Guffey children Look-A-Likes goes to... me? Eh. Let's be honest. I will just have to rack up wins in another category. Category: TBD. I'm getting so much better at losing.
I met the man of my dreams, fell in love and married him in a little chapel wearing a white dress.
I'm a diaper changing, play-doh playing, breast feeding, dinner cooking, house cleaning, and serial texting {all at the same time} kinda mom. I drive a mini van in the carpool line and there are more crumbs on my floor than in my cabinets. I try to get it all done, barefoot, with a baby on my hip.
I strive to stay positive and see the best in everyone. I fiercely believe that nothing is more important than family, and being loyal to the ones you love.
I am a passionate wife, mother, friend and follower of Christ. I am constantly changing, yet remaining the same silly little girl.
