My own island

The inspection for our new home was yesterday and awesome all in one. We knew most of the home was brand new and in excellent condition- but the thought of inspection just seems scary. We were told by some of our home owning friends that these things can take up to 4 hours- Sheesh. We were there for less than 2. Everything went well. A couple of non-major issues to be fixed and then we are ready to roll. One. Last. Move. I am so ready to be out of this place you don't even KNOW!

We are planning on installing hardwoods in 1 room and knocking down 2 walls before the end of the year. Lucky for us we have family that knows how to do all of this, saving big $$$$ on labor. You know I can't save too much money... I already have big big plans for this place.

Here's the current kitchen:

Nice, right? But kinda stuffy. Needs some homey love. Needs an island.
Here's what I'm thinking:

Something to downplay the stark newness of this room. Something distressed and worn and one-of-a-kind. Of course something that matches, but that's not matchy-matchy. I know the perfect. people. to help.

I'm on this teal kick. Well, not teal as much as robin's egg. I've read that you should have something red in every room... I am now thinking that about teal robin's egg. (see that, Shelia?! She just taught me how to cross out a word.) Anyway. I'm so excited to paint it's crazy. Maybe K will let me paint the whole laundry room this color:

Oh My Laundry. That is awesome. It's also not exactly robin's egg. Whatev. I think it's only fair. I'm not decorating his office, why should he decorate mine? ;)

Day 6: A picture of something that makes you happy
Other than the above picture? Oh, fine.

Never fails me.

Until Next Time,
The Guff
