What's In A Name?

Today we narrowed down some names for Baby Guffey.
Clearly, we aren't in a rush.

We had Chamblee's name picked out before we were pregnant with her.
Jacob tricked us into thinking he was coming 10 weeks early, so he was named in the hospital- round 1.

And, well, we just haven't taken it too seriously this time around. I find it to be a little harder since we aren't finding out the sex of the baby beforehand. I mean, where should my focus go? Boy names or girl names? The pressure.

Do we pick family names this time? What names sound good when you say all three? Chamblee, Jacob and _____. If we give a girl a classic name then Chamblee sounds silly all crazy named out there on her own. If it's a boy, do we give Jacob's brother a crazy name? Then why did we give Jacob this classic name and his siblings these banaynay ones? Do the initials spell something? We love this name, but went to school with a jerk who had the same name. Worth it? What terrible nicknames would come from that kind of name? Exhausting.

Then there's the narcissistic silly to consider. You know the ones. The "you can't name them that. That's my baby's name." Um. Let me see your patent on that, hot shot. No one is copying you. It's probably just a great name. High five on the whole "Great minds think alike" thing. [I wonder how many moms are mad we named our son Jacob. It's like #4 on the 'most popular name of all time' list. So. Many. Angry. Moms.]

I just get overwhelmed and quit after a minute. or two. "We've got plenty of time" is running out. 7 weeks. That's it.

We've got the girl names narrowed down to a few and the boys to a handful. It's really the pairing that's the pitts. Why can't they hand names out at the hospital? They should do that. "Congratulations! Your baby's name is _____." What a great idea. But then, I guess, the monogramming would have to take place after the birth. The horror.

Yo pregnant friends- do you already have baby names picked out? What are they?
Like you're telling, right?

I sure hope we don't steal your baby's name. If we do, it's probably because we couldn't think of a better one ourselves. And your. baby's. name. is the first one that came to mind to snag. That, or we have similar awesome taste. Either way, sorry about that.

Until Next Time,
The Guff

  1. Dustin and I are still undecided on a name. I have the same thought that "we have plenty of time". Which we do, for now, but the clock is ticking. We have decided not to share our name/s until after the birth, mainly because people's opinions that don't really care to hear. I figure, we'll name him what we like and they can gripe about it later, once the deed has been done. However, we are sharing our back up name, in case all else fails. How do you think Malcolm X Hussein Obama Tommey sounds? :)
